Hillhead Bookclub (Bar)

Not many people have heard about Hillhead Bookclub but when you do you will never forget it. It is located on Vinicombe Street and believe it or not, it’s not a library, it is in fact a bar!
It’s not your usual 21st century modern bar, but it is still full of young people and is somewhere different to try. Many students from Glasgow University are aware of the Bookclub as it is located near their university and many of the students live in the West end of Glasgow so it is easy for them to get to.
They offer cheap drinks; they serve cocktails in gramophones which I think we can safely say is unique to them and you also have the option of eating there too, they serve both lunch or dinner, just whatever you fancy, a good selling point is that all their food is under £10!

If you are a cocktail kind of person then you will be glad to know that they run a cocktail making master class so you can learn to make you own, and that as well is reasonably priced.
They great thing about Hillhead Bookclub is that they are aware that not every student is made of money and so they cater for you and make their food and drink cheap.

Throughout the week there are Dj’s there, and as the night gets on the venue really does begin to get busy. Whereas if you are there throughout the day then you might think that a game of ping pong would be better for you!

If you haven’t already, we would recommend that you give Hillhead Bookclub a try, just for somewhere different and to say that you have experiences there uniqueness.

The Metropolitan (Glasgow Bar and Restaurant)

The Glasgow Experience - Metropolitan - Glasgow Bar & Restaurant

Another one of Glasgow’s finest bars would be The Metropolitan, in Merchant City. It is very relaxed, chilled and has created a great atmosphere as well as having a great cocktail menu. It is a large bar with a variety of seating and friendly staff. It is a very popular place to go as it creates a great vibe with its natural surroundings.

As most places in Merchant Square you can choose to sit out in the courtyard where they have comfortable sofas and watch the world go by or sit inside the modern looking bar and soak up the atmosphere there instead.

The Glasgow Experience - JellyBaby - Event Night Glasgow
Jellybaby is one of the most popular student ‘nights’ in Glasgow! Presented to you at the O2 ABC (Sauchiehall St) every THURSDAY night from 11pm-3am, it is a great night with a packed out ‘up for it’ crowd. The night is spread across 3 rooms (Main Hall, Ice Bar and the Indie Room as it gets called). Overall the club plays a variety of indie, electro and rock, chart, pop and dance! Main hall plays all with a focus on classics and charts, it has a huge dance floor and stage and an area at the side for beanbags, YES BEANBAGS! The bars are big with plenty of staff working flat out, which on a Jellybaby night, is NEEDED! £1 vodka mixes usually keeps you sorted for the night! Obviously there are Gaymers cider for £1 as well, and jelly shots of course!

Barrowlands Ballroom (Glasgow Concert Hall / Music Venue)

The Glasgow Experience - Barrowlands - Concert Glasgow / Music venue Glasgow
If you are looking to attend a gig/concert in Glasgow then the Barrowland Ballroom is the place to go! Located in Gallowgate which is the east end of Glasgow is Scotlands most famous music venue due to the good atmosphere it provides. You can catch some big names however the barrowlands has been well known for providing a spotlight on up and coming acts in the music industry.

Morrisey @ Barrowlands 08/05/2009

The venue itself provides a intimacy between the fans and the act which is why so many people prefer a gig in here rather than larger arenas, such as the SECC. The low squared roof is the most iconic feature of the Barrowlands creating the classic "barras gig" atmosphere.

To catch a glimpse of this, here's The Veiw performing at the Barrowlands 2012

For any other info. or to catch who's playing soon take at look at the website

T.G.I Fridays (Glasgow Restaurant)

The Glasgow Experience - TGI Fridays - Restaurant Glasgow

With restaurants all over the UK it is definitely well known and most of you will have most likely visited one of them, it’s an American themed diner, you think you’ve guessed where we are talking about? Yes that’s right TGI Fridays! Speaking from experience we’ll be talking about the Glasgow restaurants as that’s where we’ve eaten!
The one that we have visited most often is located on the corner of Buchanan Street and Gordon Street. When you go in you instantly have a warm welcome with all the staff happy and there to help you, it doesn’t seem as if it is an effort if you have a question/query to ask.
The waiters/waitresses take you to your seat, which as you can imagine the seats fit in with the American style so they are very comfy! Every visit that I have made to TGI Fridays wither there has been 2 or 10 of us the staff have not used a notebook to write down our order and every time they have got it right, you really cannot flaw them.
The portion sizes are great and you will be guaranteed to be full after your meal, they have a variety of different foods to offer from the jack Daniels sesame chicken strips to the Ribeye steak, so it is something to suit everyone.

The Glasgow Experience - TGI Fridays - Restaurant Glasgow

The other great thing about the restaurant is that they have got a great selection of cocktails. They even have a section on their website where you can choose your tasting preferences and in 3 simple steps they suggest a cocktail that you may like to try, its great- you should really check it out and see what cocktail you should try next!
The Glasgow Experience - TGI Fridays - Restaurant Glasgow

Sadly the TGI’s on Buchanan Street is currently closed for refurbishment, but I’m sure it will be worth the wait with big and better things to come. It opens back on the 27th of March so your nearest TGI’s will be at Braehead (that is of course if you are central to Glasgow).

Driftwood (Glasgow Bar)

The Glasgow Experience - Driftwood - Glasgow Bar

When you see that a bar has drinks from £1 Monday-Sunday, it is hard to say no- isn’t it? You all know that we are talking about Driftwood on Sauchiehall Street.

The Glasgow Experience - Driftwood - Glasgow Bar

If you are looking for a quiet drink, then this probably isn’t for you BUT if you are looking for cheap alcohol with friendly bar staff then go join in with the rest of Glasgow and give it a try.

This is definitely the place that you will find people ‘pre-drinking’ before heading out to the clubs and since it is on the busiest part of Sauchiehall street for nightclubs, you often find yourself with free passes to get into the clubs and if you ask the bar staff they will also have passes for the Garage. You really can’t complain!

The music played in Driftwood is current and in the charts, it is always such a lively environment and is always incredibly busy, even more so on a Friday and Saturday night.

Speaking from experience we would highly advise you to book a booth or a table in advance of going so that you get a seat as many people do stand. There are plenty of tables to choose from if you get in their early

Overall if you are looking for a good night, and cheap drink, Driftwood is the place to visit
