Jumpin Jaks (Glasgow Nightclub)

If you have never been here you are missing out on a great Glasgow experience. It’s not like your average night out in the Garage or Sugarcube, no no..it is much different to that..

The first time that we went here was for a hen night…we had tables reserved which was great because we got a seat but we also got free entry, which started the night off even better! Many of my friends have still not been here but it was an experience that we will never forget. Some great memories were taken away from this night.

There is a large dance floor which if you are not on at the start of the night you certainly will be by the end! As the drinks were flowing, then it was time to have some fun on the dance floor. Now don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t chart music all night, there were some old classics in there as well (songs & people) but that just added to the great atmosphere.

We didn’t stop laughing all night and still talk about it now! Having a ‘dance off’ with an old man, you really have no hope of winning!

So if you are up for a fun night then we would definitely recommend this, if you don’t take yourself too seriously then you will love it!.

Hillhead Bookclub (Bar)

Not many people have heard about Hillhead Bookclub but when you do you will never forget it. It is located on Vinicombe Street and believe it or not, it’s not a library, it is in fact a bar!

It’s not your usual 21^st century modern bar, but it is still full of young people and is somewhere different to try. Many students from Glasgow University are aware of the Bookclub as it is located near their university and many of the students live in the West end of Glasgow so it is easy for them to get to.

They offer cheap drinks; they serve cocktails in gramophones which I think we can safely say is unique to them and you also have the option of eating there too, they serve both lunch or dinner, just whatever you fancy, a good selling point is that all their food is under £10!

If you are a cocktail kind of person then you will be glad to know that they run a cocktail making master class so you can learn to make you own, and that as well is reasonably priced.

They great thing about Hillhead Bookclub is that they are aware that not every student is made of money and so they cater for you and make their food and drink cheap.

Throughout the week there are Dj’s there, and as the night gets on the venue really does begin to get busy. Whereas if you are there throughout the day then you might think that a game of ping pong would be better for you!

If you haven’t already, we would recommend that you give Hillhead Bookclub a try, just for somewhere different and to say that you have experiences there uniqueness.

Mother India (Restaurant)

It has been quoted as being the best Indian food in Scotland, and here at the Glasgow Experience we agree that it is one of the best! It is located in the West end of Glasgow and from the success of this restaurant its sister company mother India cafes was established!

Unlike the mother India café, mother India is more of the traditional concept, with an A La Carte menu. They have dishes to suit everyone from the mildest dishes to the hot and spicy ones as they have healthy options, without a doubt everything that is served is to a great standard!

When you taste the food you can taste that it is fresh which makes you enjoy the taste even more

To ensure that you receive a table at the time you want, you can even book a table through their online reservation system which can be more convenient than trying to phone or even go into the restaurant if you are busy. The restaurant is over 3 floors so there is lots of space for you to be situated; a different atmosphere is created on each floor, so there is something to suit everyone!

If you haven’t tried mother India then the Glasgow experience suggest you do if you, it’s super tasty and you won’t regret it!

The Hilton Hotel (Accomodation Glasgow)

Now if you are coming to visit Glasgow after all our great reviews you have been reading, have you thought about a place to stay?

Well if you are looking for great service with its 5 star hotel rating then the Hilton in Glasgow is ideal for you. It is in the heart of Glasgow and walking distance to many of the restaurants and bars that we have previously reviewed.

It has got a variety of bedroom suites so if you are travelling on your own or with your family, the Hilton can accommodate you. The have some dining services and bars at the hotel which you should try out as well as all the other great places in and around Glasgow.

There are often big events held in the Hilton as it is well known for its classy reputation so you will often hear of people having their wedding there or even holding a corporate event for businesses.

You are probably thinking that because it is 5 star it will be out of your budget range? It is actually reasonably priced in comparison to similar hotels in the area and it is definitely worth it as it is so easy to travel to different places around the city centre or it is close to public transport if you were looking to explore more of Scotland for a day.

The Horseshoe Bar (Glasgow)

 

You need not look further for a unique bar layout than ‘The Horseshoe Bar’, located on Drury Street, Glasgow. This iconic bar is the longest in all of Europe (or so they claim), coming in at 104 feet and 3 inches. The classic Victorian design situated slap bang in the centre of the pub, takes shape in the form of a horseshoe. The size and shape of the bar, whilst being aesthetically pleasing on the eye, makes the bar accessible from any area of the bar’s sitting areas. This is a great feature of the pub on a busy night, where, unlike traditional ‘flat’ bars, queues build up and getting away from the bar without spilling your drink is, as we all know, one of the most difficult things to do!

The staff are known for being kind and helpful. They really know their stuff! Ask them for a recommendation of one of the many Scottish beers available, you won’t be disappointed!

The drink selection on offer is far from small;

“From smooth Australians to fruity French numbers, our cellar is amply stocked with palate-pleasing wines (by the glass and bottle) - and at prices not to be sniffed at. If you're more of a cask-ale connoisseur, you can be assured that every one of our great British brews is given the love and attention you'd expect from a Cask Marque accredited pub in Glasgow.”

On to the food. The Horseshoe offers great pub grub at reasonable prices! We recommend the burgers, perfect accompaniment to a freshly poured lager! Theres always a deal to go with meals, so no doubt you will find something worthwhile! Every day is “Burger & A Drink” day! For just £6.29 you can get a delicious burger and a pint! Try the ‘Grill Night’ on a Wednesday! “Choose your favourite from steak, chicken or gammon cooked to perfection”. SUNDAY, take note of this! £5.49 for a ROAST and a drink, something!

“Some of our dishes offer a tempting twist on the traditional. Take our trio of mini pies, for instance, perfect with your favourite tipple and a few pals. While others are just darned tempting, like our 8oz gourmet burgers, made from prime Scottish beef and served with an array of adventurous toppings. Or our juicy ribs, smothered in your choice of sauce.”

Tony Roma’s Restaurant (Glasgow)

Tony Roma’s Restaurant is located in the Glasgow’s Xscape (Across from Braehead Shopping Centre). 

The American restaurant is famous for its steaks, ribs and seafood.

With the restaurant located in the Glasgow Xscape it is easy to access with the shopping centre being only across from it.

So it is ideal for a lunch after a hard days shopping in the Braehaed Shopping centre.

Tony Roma’s has many different dishes to offer from a big tasty steak to a rack of ribs there is something to suit anyone’s taste buds !!

 

Another reason to visit Tony Roma’s is that the restaurant also offer a lunch menu which is cheaper a 3 course meal for only £12.95 which is a bargain !!!!

Tony Roma’s is perfect for a family night out , the restaurant have an amazing deal for kids with kids eating FREE !!! when a main meal is bought from the main menu !! This deal is great value for money , so you can afford to treat the kids to a nice meal out .....

 

The final thing that makes this American restaurant stand out from the rest is that Tony Roma’s have a all you can eat rib deal , this is rib lover’s dream. They call it the Endless Slab Monday for a reason........ its only £19.95 and you can eat as much ribs as you want !!!.

The Harvester restaurant has many locations in and around Glasgow City Centre including the Quay Restaurant which is only across the water from the City Centre.

The Harvester is known as a salad and grill restaurant

At the Harvester you choose your grill , sauce and the side to build up your favourite meal and unlimited salads are also offered so the restaurant is great value for money.

This family restaurant is perfect for family meals and has its own kids menus so means the kids can choose their favourite dishes but not with adult portions and an adult price.

 

Staff are very welcoming and make you feel special every visit

The restaurants have a nice decor making you relaxed while enjoying great food !!!

China Buffet King is a all you can eat buffet this means that you can try as many different dishes as you want all for one fixed price ! Is great value for money as it includes starter, main meals and even desserts !

Beer Gardens Glasgow (FEATURED ARTICLE)

We are still waiting for spring to begin and maybe even see some summer this year and I know many of us don’t think it will happen but all we can do is hope and keep our fingers crossed!

But the great thing is, when the weather gets better and all the snow disappears it means that all the beer gardens will be ready for use!

On a summers day (we all know there aren’t many) everybody gets their shorts and sunglasses out and head to their nearest beer garden!

If you’ve never been to a beer garden your probably thinking what’s so good about it, well let’s just see;

1.      To start off it’s a time when you can sit outside, chill and watch the sun shine on you.

2.      A summers days will encourage all your friends to come out and enjoy the sunshine (even the ones that always come up with the excuses will find it hard to say no).

3.      When the sun is shining it is always deemed acceptable to start drinking in the afternoon just to absorb those extra few rays of sun and increase your vitamin D.

4.      You can absorb the great atmosphere around you, we know when the sun is shining it might not exactly be hitting the 30 degrees that we all wish for but the patio heaters that most beer gardens have will help you feel and think it is.

5.      And naturally on a sunny day everybody is happy because the sun is finally out, and so everyone just seems to be loving life that little bit more and have a few more beers than normal!

After discussing all the good things about beer gardens all we need to do is sit and wait for that one day of sunshine that we get in Scotland ( you know we are only kidding, we do get a few more than one).

Now if you are in Glasgow on that rare sunny day we would advise that you give these bars a try; Babbity Bowster’s in merchant city or if you are in the west end then give Brel or Jinty Mcginty’s a try which are both in Ashton Lane.

Ketchup (Glasgow Restaurant)

So if you are a great fan of burgers then Ketchup on Ashton lane (West End of Glasgow) is the place for you to be! It offers a variety of great burgers; in fact it is the great same ones that you have tasted in hummingbird in Glasgow city centre

If you are a student then It is ideal for students as ketchup offer 2for 1 burgers with your student card from Monday- Thursday.

Now you are probably thinking that burgers are unhealthy but Ketchup burgers are fresh and health and have no colourants, additives or artificial flavouring, so really they are perfect for you to try!

If you love burgers and haven’t been to ketchup before, then this is one to try! And you can get some lush chicken strips as a side whilst you’re waiting. They even have a few suggestions in the mains sections if you don’t fancy a burger.

They also have their own ‘ketchup sauce’ which you can use on your burgers and if you love it you can even buy a bottle from them to take home and use.

Ketchup on Ashton lane is very chilled out and relaxing and is just great for a bite to eat, once you’ve tried it once, you’ll just keep on going back!

Home (Glasgow Bar)

Bar Home is one of Glasgow’s greatest bars for students, it is located in Albion street in Merchant City, it is always busy and full of people who are having a great night out. They have got some booths and chairs in there so to get a seat, get in there early or book a booth before you go!

They have a variety of different food and drink offers and they also have a fantastic cocktail menu. Sometimes it is good to line your stomach so having some food before hitting the ridiculous amounts of vodka and shots that we all seem to consume on a night out.

so if it is food that you are looking for then fear not because they have some great deals throughout the week; you can get 2 main meals for £6.45 every day of the week and 2 for 1 on all desserts. You can’t ask much more for good value for money right?

You still get a great experience from bar home even no all there drinks are exceptionally cheap! This is where I would recommend that you start your night off as it has a great ambience, and the staff are fun and friendly. It is definitely one of the top bars to pre-drink in before you hit a nightclub!

A Typical Students Night Out in Glasgow (FEATURED ARTICLE)

So everybody always goes out and has a ’few drinks’, traditionally you would go out on a Friday or Saturday night, but now every weekday is just as good as the weekend, most bars and clubs have got a least one promotional night midweek and then the weekend is just guaranteed to be a great night where ever you end up but the question is

IS ALL THE DRINKING REALLY WORTH IT?

So most people (especially if you are a student) pre-drink before they go out, because they are living a typical students life, they can adapt their ways and some people can go out and have a great night on £20, on the other hand there are some people who go out and after they have a few drinks they think they are made of money and begin offering everybody a drink..(And of course it’s rude to decline the generous offer). They obviously wake up in the morning trying to piece together the bits of the night that they can remember and regret spending so much money.

But let’s face it who would have it any other way …if you go out and enjoy yourself does it really matter that your ‘wasting your money’ on drink, definitely not!

Students seem to be living with the ‘YOLO’ approach (you only live once). So they will go out and have fun, and it doesn’t matter that they are getting in a 4 o’clock in the morning and have a 9am lecture, sometimes they make it, sometimes they don’t (you can spot them a mile away walking into the lecture with their hair scraped back and most likely their false eyelashes still on from the night before) .It could be worse than a lecture they could be working the next day where they have to act professional in front of management but in the back  of their head all they are thinking about is all the funny things they can remember or the thought that when their shift finishes the first thing that they will do is crawl back into bed!

So back to the question asked earlier, is all the drinking really worth it?  …of course it is, a student’s life wouldn’t be the same without it!

Vodka Wodka (Bar Glasgow)



Vodka Wodka is located in the west end of Glasgow on the beautiful Ashton lane. As you can tell by the name, this is a vodka bar with over 70 speciality different vodkas from all around the world! So brilliant if you fancy something a wee bit different!

This place is aimed for students usually during the week, however when the weekend hits it's somewhere for everyone. And don't worry if you don't like vodka! Vodka wodka also have a delicious range of cocktails. You can also enjoy great food here! An Italian menu is served between 12-7pm so even better for the wee hour lunch or between lectures.

During the summer this is the place to be as it has a conservatory which is great chilling out with friends over some nice vodkas! This place is brilliant for a night out especially in the heart of the west end ... for any other enquires head over to their website http://www.vodkawodka.co.uk/
